Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is a British-American sitarist and musician. She was first in her age group to receive an award from the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Sitar Shankar, one of the Indian young sitar singer. She is the student and sister of Ravi Shankar. Her childhood was spent bouncing between London in the UK to New Delhi. When she was 13 she staged her first show at New Delhi. In Encinitas California in 1999, she was awarded a high-school diploma. Her career as a musician and performer is quite impressive, in spite of her youth. Since a while, she regularly performs with her father. In 1998 she released her first self-titled album Anourag. It was followed by the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. Stage performances are a significant part of her work. She has performed in a variety of famous venues around the world. Anoushka Shakar's career isn't only limited to music. Bapi: The love of My Live is her 2002 book, which was a tribute Ravi Shankar. She also acted on the film "Dance Like a Man" in 2003. The role she played was that of a Bharat Natyam dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar's professional career is continuing to develop and we're likely to see many things from her in the years to follow. Anoushka was a frequent traveler and spent lots of her time in London and Delhi throughout her childhood. Later, she moved to California to finish high school. At the age of nine, she began studying music under her father making her performing debut on the sitar 4 years later during his 75th birthday celebration in Delhi. Anoushka, who accompanied her father throughout his global tour, gained an impressive quantity of knowledge. As a teenager, she played at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD and even recorded with George Harrison. Her musicianship and talent was recognized by British parliament as among the finest at Asian Arts.
